Jesse Ryan
Counseling Intern
Supervised by Claudia Thompson, LMFT-S, LPC-S
Jesse is a relationship counseling intern passionate about helping couples strengthen their connection, improve communication, and build deeper understanding and empathy for each other. Each person she works with is unique and sees the world in their own way. Jesse understands that the couples she works with may not always see eye to eye. She believes that differences in a relationship aren’t weaknesses, they’re opportunities for understanding, empathy, and a privilege of connecting with another person. Jesse helps her clients learn how to show up for each other so their relationship grows and prospers.
The first step for a couple seeking therapy is just deciding that therapy is what they need. Jesse wants to be the person you can turn to to create a safe and comfortable space to express your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment.
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, but Jesse is committed to making the experience comfortable and empowering. She encourages couples to take an active role in their sessions, guiding them toward the goals and changes they want to see in their relationship. Whether you're navigating major life transitions, working through trust issues, exploring intimacy challenges, or coping with anxiety or depression, Jesse is here to support you.
Jesse is affirming and inclusive of all relationship styles and identities, including LGBTQ+ individuals, non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships, and the spectrum of gender. Jesse is kink and sex positive. Her approach is tailored to your unique experiences and needs.
Approach to Counseling
In therapy sessions, Jesse provides a compassionate space for you to freely explore what’s on your mind and what is bringing you to therapy. Jess wants to get to know your world and the way that you see yourself and others. She uses a systems approach, recognizing that changes within yourself can create ripple effects in your relationships and environment. Jesse is also practicing narrative therapy, helping you separate challenges from your identity and empowering you to reshape your story in a way that aligns with your values and goals.
Jesse values building a genuine connection in the therapy room. She will empathize, relate, and work to truly understand what you have to say. Jesse wants your story to be heard, understood, and to partner with you to repair the hurts you have experienced.
Education
Jesse is completing her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at St. Edward’s University. She holds an Associate’s Degree in Psychology from Austin Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a focus on Women’s and Gender Studies from St. Edward’s University.
